Marine Exchange of San Francisco Deploys New ATON System ** View YouTube Video**
The Marine Exchange of San Francisco has deployed 1 of 3 new Nortek ATON Systems in San Francisco Bay to provide real-time current velocity measurements in support of vessel transport safety.

The installation and deployment of the first of three Nortek ATON Systems in San Francisco Bay was completed on 21 November 2008. The system is deployed on the South Hampton Shoal channel marker buoy 6, located roughly between Tiburon and Richmond, California.
The ATON System is equipped with a Nortek 1 MHz Aquadopp Profiler and reports a real-time current profile every 6 minutes via the NOAA PORTS website.
Data from the Aquadopp Profiler are transmitted via RF modem to the base station receiver, installed at the Romburg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies in collaboration with Toby Garfield. All three ATON Systems will be owned and operated by the Marine Exchange of San Francisco (SFMX), under direct management by Alan Steinbrugge. The South Hampton install was lead by Steve O'Malley of OceanTechUSA, under contract with NortekUSA, with assistance provided by Judah Goldberg of NortekUSA, Mark Bailey of NOAA, Alan Steinbrugge of SFMX, and Kaitlin Ortega of SFMX. The service vessel was provided by Foss Maritime.
