NortekUSA is pleased to help support and work with the Acadia Tidal Energy Institute (ATEI), housed at Acadia University in Nova Scotia. Strategically located on the Bay of Fundy’s Minas Basin, the Acadia Tidal Energy Institute will develop partnerships and lead multi-disciplinary research projects and other initiatives that address knowledge gaps associated with the developing tidal energy industry. The Institute will focus on tidal energy resource assessment, environmental monitoring and impacts, socio-economic growth, sustainable communities, and the development and delivery of tidal energy educational programs and other support materials.
“This is an exciting time to be involved in tidal energy research and the testing of commercial in-stream tidal energy devices” said Dr. Anna Redden, Director of the Tidal Energy Institute.
Nortek has supplied a number of AWAC and Vector velocimeters for tidal energy resource assessment programs in the Bay of Fundy. "The Nortek instruments were selected to measure profiles of current velocity, turbulence intensity at “hub height” and near the bottom, and for measurements of surface waves" said Dr. Redden.
Nortek hopes to foster the renewable energy community by supporting ATEI and hosting events such as the Technical Symposium on Renewable Energy Measurement Challenges and Solutions in Newport, Rhode Island, in 2011.
