The CollectV data collection software is
a Windows-based alternative to the DOS freeware
that comes with every NDV. The software can
control both PC-based and stand-alone units,
and it can even control a mixture of
systems. For existing owners of Nortek
Velocimeters, CollectV means goodbye to real
mode DOS computers. If combined with
ExploreV it means saving time – any data
file you have recorded with CollectV can
immediately be loaded into ExploreV for
further analysis.
Several important features have been
added to expand the use of your NDV
velocimeters or to save you time and effort.
First there is "boundary measurement mode",
whereby the NDV measures the distance to the
bottom while moving the probe around.
Another feature is the multi-system mode
where multiple PC-based or stand-alone
system - or even a mixture of the two – can
all be controlled and synchronized from a
single PC. CollectV can display all data
types output by the NDV (velocity,
amplitude, and correlation).

Applications
Owners of both new and old NDV velocimeters can use CollectV as an alternative to the DOS based software. CollectV is the only option if you would like to control multiple stand-alone units ("NDVField") from a single computer, combine PC-based and stand-lone units, or if you would like to measure the distance to the boundary.
Specifications
Input
- Nortek PC-based NDV Velocimeters ("NDVLab")
- Nortek stand-alone NDV Velocimeters ("NDVField")
- Sontek 10 MHz Velocimeters (check for compatibility)
Functionality
- Plot all velocity, echo amplitude, and correlation (quality) in a graphical trace display. Contains zoom and full axis control
- Measure the distance to the bottom while moving the probe around (boundary distance mode). The allowable distance in boundary mode is 0.05 - 0.25m, the update rate is about 2 s, and the accuracy is 2-3 mm. The footprint of the acoustic beam is about 10 mm
- Control multiple PC-based or stand-alone velocimeters from one computer
- Run the diagnostic check program from within the software
Output
- Store data to binary files
- Copy the real-time display to the clipboard using bitmap or vector graphics format
System requirements
Any PC running Windows 98, NT, or 2000. Windows 95 can be used with stand-alone NDVs but not with PC-based systems. For desktop computers, intelligent serial cards are recommended for the operation of more than one stand-alone system. For laptop computers, a USB serial port hub is recommended for generating multiple serial ports.
