If you need to transmit real-time wave and current data through low-bandwidth channels, the Nortek Internal Processor (NIP) is your answer!
In many applications, raw wave and current data are simply too large to transfer over low-bandwidth channels such as underwater acoustic modems, Iridium or GOES. The logical solution is to use the NIP to process the raw wave data into more concise wave estimates and spectra. These processed data are considerably reduced (100-1000 bytes) as compared with the raw wave data (25-50 kilobytes). The NIP also solves the problem of using third party controllers and integrating wave-processing code into the users’ own software.
The NIP is a scaled down PC, running Windows CE. It communicates through standard serial ports. The processor is capable of low power sleep modes, and is shut down when not in use. The unit is positioned inside the base of the AWAC or any other Nortek product, and can be retrofitted to any existing system. The NIP can output user selectable data sets in ASCII or BINARY with the NIPTalk software.
