SmartBay Buoy, Marine Institute, New Foundland, Canada

The upgraded Aquadopp HR Profiler with PUCK firmware was provided to the SmartBay project at the Marine Institute (New Foundland, Canada).  The Aquadopp  will form part of a demonstration project where it will be exchanged with a CTD provided by another industry participant in a live operational environment.  The exercise will demonstrate the “plug and work” capabilities of the PUCK-enabled instruments in that the identity and the drivers associated with both instruments will be tracked by our SmartBay host network.  Following relocation on the network, the instruments will be recognized and handled by the host network without need for initialization or reconfiguration.  The results of the demonstration will be documented and will become part of a submission of new specification for interoperable sensors by the Smart Ocean Sensor Consortium (SOSC) for acceptance and adoption by the Open Geospatial Consortium.
