New navigation capability to PUMA Ocean Racing Team
Large array of Vectrinos
Remember a year ago, when we announced the sale of 28 Vectrinos to State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering of Dalian University of Technology in China? These have since then been put into operation, in a fairly spectacular sensor setup.
The key researchers are Professor Zou Zhi Li and Ms Sun Yang, who are using the units in a series of different flumes, 2D wave tanks and 3D basins that they have available at the facility. The research includes turbulent flow studies, 3D simulations of the the coastal and offshore flow, as well as ship modelling projects. In the current setup all 28 Vectrinos are connected to Atop AW5300-WgN1 wireless modems that transmit the data online to four PCs, each of which can control and receive data from 8 vectrinos in parallel.
China is now one of the most active countries in the world for hydraulic research, which goes hand in hand with the incredible civil engineering activitiy that can be seen all throughout the country.
