Inductive modem for 6000-m Aquadopp
"Inductive modem" is a form of non-contact underwater communication that uses the mooring cable as the conduit. This form of communication has been available for some time with our standard Aquadopp current meter. Now the 6000-m Aquadopp can also be fitted with the inductive modem option.
Inductive communication makes it possible to deploy open ocean mooring systems where data are transferred to shore at regular intervals. Typically, several instruments (current meters, CT-sensors, etc) are fitted with magnetic coils and clamped at various points along the deep water mooring cable (made from a steel wire with an outer polyurethane jacket). The communication along the mooring line is controlled by a surface unit that can address each device and tell it when to transfer the data. If the surface unit is connected to a satellite transmitter, the data can then be sent in near real time to shore.
We are pleased to announce that we have released the Aquadopp IM6000, which completes a year-long task to permit inductive communication with our Aquadopp current meters. The first five units of the IM6000 have already been successfully delivered.
