Vectrino in water!
Hi all,
I'm going to work with a vectrino in a wave flume. As the top part of the flume is closed I might have to let the ADV be there for my entire experiments (say 3 months) I know that ADV has been designed to work in water. But, I'm wondering, is putting ADV in water constantly for 3 months cause damage to the instrument?
Thanks in advance.
Abbas
Hi Abbas,
A response from Norway might be a little slow right now because of the holiday. Do you have a cabled or fixed stem Vectrino? Both probe heads will be fine in plain water for this amount of time, but if there is anything added to the water to control algae growth (such as chlorine) there will be damage to the cabled probe head where the black urethane parts where the cable and metal meet. The metal parts are all 316 stainless steel and are highly corrosion resistant.
Also, take a look at the Vectrino product page (http://www.nortek-as.com/en/products/velocimeters/vectrino) and identify your communications cable connector. If you have the Impulse connector (the one on the left) it will be fine, but if you only have the splash proof connector it shouldn't be submerged and you'll want to be able to inspect it regularly if it is consistently getting wet.
P.J.
