Hi,

We have two profilers which have rust on the pressure sensors? I know this is not good, what can be done about it?

Yes, you are correct - rust is not good. The problem is something called crevise corrosion, where the 316 steel sensor rusts in the corners. This will not make the profiler leak but it will eventually mean that the sensor fails.???

To reduce the rust, the pressure sensor port should be opened and the sensor cleaned after each deployment. Also, it is important that the little "sponge" above the sensor is cleaned and put in place before the deployment because the accumulation of sediment on top of the sensor increases the corrosion rate.  When the system is retrieved, the sponge should be removed and the sensor cleaned

The long term fix is to change the material that the pressure sensor is made from.  We are in the process of doing just that.<img src=" />:)'>

Pressure sensor

Hi all,

Below Atle says to open the pressure port and clean the sensor and sponge. I have a Vector ADV so I am not sure if the pressure port is the same as the Profilers. I am sitting here looking at my pressure case and I can not tell if the pressure plug is screwed in or if it is an interference fit. I do not want to damage my instrument so I was seeking the information of how to get at and clean the pressure sensor on the Vector ADV.
