Welcome to the discussion forum on current meter and current profiler data processing. Here we can share questions, answers and ideas for turning binary current data into useful information.

The first question many people ask is "How can I see my data". Neither the Aquadopp nor the AquaPro software enable you to play back recorded data. Here are a couple of approaches you can use to see your data:

1) ExploreP and ExploreAQD software. ExploreP is a versatile program you can buy for reviewing your profiler data. ExploreAQD is an unfinished program, but if you can live with its bugs, it gives you a useful overview of your Aquadopp current meter data.

2) ASCII data. All of our standard programs convert binary data into ASCII data, which you can import into other programs for processing. To find out what each column of data means, print the file that ends with .hdr, the header file. You will find a complete description of the file formats at the end of each file.

What programs can you use to look at data? At NortekUSA, we use Matlab and Excel. Lee uses Matlab because it has virtually unlimited capability. Randy uses Excel because it is the most common program used by our customers.

If you use a different program, let us know what you use and what you think.
