Pressure calibration

Posted by Chris Newman at April 17. 2002
Tha last deployment of one of our Aquadopps showed some offsets in both temperature and pressure readings. I need to verify the pressure by doing a calibration. In order to do that I need to make a fitting that will fit the pressue hole of he top plate. Can dimensions be provided and description of the fitting you use. Also, could you describe in detail how you perform the pressure calibrations on the Aquadopps? <img src=" />;)'>

The next software release will include a pressure offset calibration function.

Details on how to calibrate Aquadopps will follow later today.

Hi

To find the absolute pressure, you either need to put the Aquadopp in a calibrated pressure tank or you must build a fixture. The Aquadopp does not easily lend itself to using simple fixtures - one of the penalties of using plastic materials.

Thetis in France has built such a fixture for the French Navy (see picture). If you are interested, they may be able to provide one for you as well.

The actual recalibration of the Aquadopp pressure scaling means that the head configuration file must be changed.  This is not part of the standard software suite but we can help make the necessary change should you find it is necessary.

It seems that a simple calibration fixture could be constructed if the transducer head and electronics were first removed from it's pressure case, and then inserted into the fixture, using the Aquadopps o-rings for one side of the pressure seal. Do you foresee any problems with this approach?

No, this should work - although it would be nice if you can give the electronics some support.

Please let us all know how it works out.  <img src=" />:)'>
