Nortek systems have a synch out option that gives a 3.3v signal just when the system reports on the rs232 port. It switches on 1 Second before the serial data comes and switches off 700mS after it has finished.
To use this feature you will need a special harness which you can fit yourself. Contact Nortek for more details.
The diagram shows the RS232 signal (channel 1) and the sync line (channel 2)
